Football to raise funds for Baniya

KATHMANDU, June 14: In a bid to raise funds for the treatment of the former national volleyball player Dinesh Baniya, Nepal National and International Players´ Association is going to organize Players´ Cup Football Tournament in association with Nepal Sports Journalists´ Forum on June 26-27 at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu. Baniya, who represented Nepali national volleyball team in the fifth and sixth SAG games in 1991 and 1993, is critically ill due to kidney failure. Baniya is undergoing dialysis treatment twice a week at Blue Cross Nursing Home. Baniya urgently needs kidney transplant, which requires at least Rs 1.3 million. To raise the money, the Players´ Cup will be organized in the capital. The tournament will feature four teams.



Nepal Police Club, Nepal Army Club, Three Star Club and New Road Team (NRT) will feature in the tournament. Two matches will be held on the first day and the winner of each match will vie for title on the second day. The winner will be provided with the trophy.



Seasonal ticket for both day will cost Rs 500, while single day ticket will be available in Rs 100, Rs 200. The entire fund collected from the sale of tickets will be provided for Baniya´s treatment, the organizers said at a press meet on Sunday.



Meanwhile, a documentary on football -- Football Language of World and Inspiration -- produced by Om Krishna Shrestha will be screened at Ashok Hall, Patan Dhoka, on June 21.
