Originally from Kathmandu Salin Man Baniya stepped in the Nepali film industry via Rekha Thapa’s directorial venture ‘A Mero Hajur 2’. Baniya’s next film ‘Yatra: A Musical Love’ is all set to hit the theater on April 12. My City’s team interacted with Baniya to know about more his character in the Samrat Shakya-directed film. Following are the edited excerpts:
You have portrayed a character of traveler, are you interested to travel in real life?
Earlier I was not totally into travelling, but after my first film ‘A Mero Hajur’ I started liking it. And I am really happy to portray the character of a traveler in the film. We travelled a lot for shooting and sometimes we had to go for a hike as well. I really enjoyed that. Definitely, ‘Yatra’ has made me a traveler (‘Yatri’).
How did you decided to play the film?
One of the main reasons to choose the film is its storyline. The film has ability to entertain the audience. It is a unique amalgamation of love, affection, culture, tourism and social issues. I was really impressed by the story and recommend this film to everyone. The exclusive twists and turns of the film will take audience into a roller coaster journey.
Going with the flow
How is this film different from ‘A Mero Hajur’ in terms of your character?
My character in the film is quite different from the previous one. I portrayed a romantic character in my debut character, but in this film audience can see me as a leader. It was a bit hard to portray this character and I hope audience will appreciate my efforts.
Why did you take a long break?
I was searching for a good script. But I was offered love stories only. I was willing to do something new because nowadays a number of love stories are being produced. As the film is different, we are expecting the audience appreciates our work.
How was your experience working in an action scene?
It was really fun to work under the assistance of the action director. We used to create a formula for action scenes. I bled twice during the shooting, but team was really amazing and we easily coped up with the situation.
Do you consult your parents after getting film offers?
It’s really important to consult someone from the family before taking decisions. That’s why I talk with my elder sister and I consult her about films. After reading the entire script, I share it with my sister. If she likes it, we finalize it.
Anmol KC starrer film ‘A Mero Hajur 3’ is also releasing the same day. How do you feel?
In every business there is risk. But in my point of view, both films have good stories and will perform well in the theaters.
You are carrying a camera in the film’s poster. Do you have interest for photography in real life?
I was once interested in photography. I also know most of the features of a DSLR camera. But now I don’t carry them. I use my phone instead.
