MAKAWANPUR, Dec 6: Indra Bahadur Baniya has been elected the President of Nepali Congress (NC) Bagmati Province Committee from the first Bagmati Province Convention of the party held on Sunday. Baniya received 1,085 votes in the election, while his rival Jagdishwor Narsingh KC got 927 votes, according to Election Officer Keshav Kafle.

The election committee said that 13 votes were declared invalid. For the election of the province committee president, re-election was held on Sunday as no candidate bagged at least 50 per cent of the total votes. In the first phase, Baniya and KC had got 992 votes and 877 votes, respectively.
Prior to the election on Sunday, the third candidate of the president, Bhimsen Das Pradhan had announced his support to Baniya, who is considered close to the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
