Gamgadhi depot of NFC has awarded a contract to Rara Suryodaya Food and Medicinal Herbs Supplier to supply the rice to Sarukot Food Distribution Centre.
Of 1,600 quintals of rice allotted by NFC for the locals of Soru region in the last fiscal year, the supplier sold 1,426 quintals to the locals of Gamgadhi. [break]
The NFC had provided Rs. 6, 46,100 to the contractor Sur Bahadur Buda for the food supply to Sarukot region. But Buda sold the rice at the district headquarters, and pocketed huge amount of money.
After locals from Dhainakot VDC took Buda under control for selling the food illegally, he had said that he sold the rice in collusion with some officials of the concerned authorities in Gamgadhi, and he had to share some percent of the income with them, said a local resident.
In an audio record provided by a source, Buda could be seen coercing the agitating locals into not disclosing the irregularity. He even pledged some money to them.
Every year, rice supplied by the government for Soru region is illegally sold out in the district headquarters. But the concerned authorities keep mum. It clearly hints at the collusion of the government officials, contractors and local political parties for the irregularity, the locals allege.
Following the wrongdoing, the locals of Rara, Kalain, Dhainakot, Viheen, Narthapu, Potu and Jima VDCs in the Soru region have become hapless victim of food scarcity.
After the case was disclosed, the central office of NFC has already canceled a contract to supply food to the region in the current fiscal year.
