FNJ has appealed the apex court to issue an interim order to provide minimum wage to journalists working in state-owned media and to ask Office of the Press Registrar to begin monitoring them for the status of the Act implementation.

The petitioners stated that despite the legal provision, state-owned media organizations have not given appointment letters to employees and also violated Act’s provision by employing more than 15 percent journalists on contractual basis.

FNJ reported that 45 percent journalists working in state-owned media houses do not receive minimum salary fixed by the Minimum Wage Fixation Committee.
