FNJ chair calls for Working Journalist Act implementation

BIRATNAGAR, Feb. 13: President of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Dharmendra Jha urged the lawmakers to ensure journalists’ security and implement the Working Journalists’ Act immediately.[break]



Inaugurating the 10th convention of the FNJ Morang Chapter in Biratnagar on sunday, he said the security personnel should take action against those who issue life threat over the news coverage.



The media persons across the country have been exerting pressure the parties to write constitution in time, said President Jha.



The coming 23rd Convention of the FNJ would focus for the press freedom and constitution writing as its main agendas, he claimed.



During the inaugural session, lawmaker Jayaram Yadav said the nation and the people will get right information provided that the civil servants and media persons remain away from the politics.



Similarly, FNJ General Secretary Poshan KC said media persons’ role was important for the establishment of democracy and writing the constitution as journalists were more trustworthy than others.



Representatives of different political parties, journalists and others wished for the success of the convention and expressed their confidence that the new leadership of the chapter would work its best for journalists’ rights.



On the occasion, FNJ President Jha honored the chapter’s advisors and other members.



Dipak Dahal, Yagya Sharma Shiva Bahadur Karki, Mahendra Bista, Mohan Bhandari and Krishnaraj Koirala are among the honored.
