KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Foreign Minister NP Saud has requested Russia to repatriate Nepali citizens, who have joined the army there.
Foreign Minister Saud had a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin during the NAM summit in Uganda's capital, Kampala, on Friday.
Russia must heed Nepal's concerns
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Saud said that Nepal does not have a policy of sending citizens to foreign armies except in the traditional arrangement with some countries. He said, "We have asked Russia not to recruit Nepali citizens."
He also requested to return the bodies of Nepalis who died during the war with Ukraine and provide compensation to their families. “The families of those who died in Russia are suffering a lot. It is our human responsibility to respect the wishes of the family to receive the dead bodies of their relatives and bury them according to their culture,” he said.
In response, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said that he would take initiatives to address the issues raised by Foreign Minister Saud.
