Five killed, 37 others injured in bus-truck collision in Kohalpur

NEPALGUNJ, April 17: At least five persons were killed and 37 others were injured in a bus-truck collision that occured in forest area near Chappargaudi in Kohalpur on Friday evening. 

According to Deputy Inspector of Police at Area Police Office in Kohalpur Rabindra Khanal, the health condition of the seven injured persons is critical. The accident occured when a bus on its way to Kohalpur from Surkhet and tipper truck coming from opposite direction collided head-on. 

Those killed in the accident have been identified as the helper of the tipper truck Udaya Batha, 21, tipper truck driver Khagendra Bahadur Sunar, 25, of Kohalpur Muncipality-12, Jiwan Bahadur BK, 45, of Sathakhani-7, Surkhet and Chhatra Bahadur Katawal, 45, of Mechi Municipality-10, Jhapa. 

While BK is learnt to be a Warrant Officer of Nepal Army, Katawal is the owner of the ill-fated bus (Me 1 Kha 3347). Police said a woman of in her 30s' also brethed her last in the accident. Her identity is yet to be ascertained. 

All those injured in the accident are currently undergoing treatment at Nepalgunj Medical College, Teaching Hospital. Police said the accident occured at around 6 pm Friday. Preliminary investigation has shown that the accident occured due to overspeeding.
