KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Police have arrested five individuals involved in a series of gold chain thefts and robberies across various locations in the Kathmandu Valley.
A team deployed from the Swayambhu Police Circle detained the suspects and obtained an eight-day remand from the Kathmandu District Court to investigate the theft-related case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Raj Lama,28, of Harihargadhi-6, Sindhuli; Durg Bahadur Magar, alias Bishal,20, of Taple-4, Udayapur; Dil Bahadur BK, 32, of Likhu Tamakoshi-6, Ramechhap; Gobinda Sunar, 40, of Galkot-2, Baglung; and Dipesh Rasaili, 22, of Lamkichuha-7, Kailali.

According to police, Lama and Magar used motorcycles to snatch gold chains from women walking on the streets, while BK was responsible for selling the stolen gold. Sunar and Rasaili were involved in purchasing the stolen ornaments.
Police investigations revealed that the group had robbed over 12 tolas of gold chains and several mobile phones from areas including Nakkhudol, Buddha Chowk, Single Tree, Ramkot, Thapachowk, and Nepaltar in Lalitpur and Kathmandu in recent weeks.
From Lama and Magar’s residence, police seized 10 mobile phones, 73 SIM cards, two motorcycles, gold bills and court documents. Likewise, Rs 388,500 in cash was recovered from BK’s Laxmi Jewellers, 64 lal of gold from Rasaili’s room, and seven tola 48 lal of gold along with Rs 166,000 in cash from Sunar’s Kalika Jewellers in Baglung.
Police said the suspects are being investigated on charges of theft and organized crime.
