Fire guts six houses

DHANKUTA, March 16: Six houses were gutted in fire that broke out at Mulghat, Belahara VDC -9 of Dhankuta district on Friday night.



Property worth more than Rs. 17.5 million was destroyed by the fire, informed Inspector Padam Karki of the Armed Police Force Base Camp at Mulghat. [break]



According to Karki, two houses belonging to Bal Bahadur Shrestha and the houses of Tilak Pariyar, Yegya Bahadur Thapa, Rekha Thapa and Khem Thapa were destroyed in the inferno. Resturants were being run at all the gutted houses.



The fire, which started at around 10 p.m. on Friday, was brought under control after three hours by locals, police and fire brigade personnel. Fire engines were called in from Dharan and Ithari.



The fire started in one of Shrestha´s house but police are yet to determine its cause.



After the fire, the local administration, the Red Cross Society and many non-govermental organizations in the district have thronged the scene with relief materials. Last year also, a fire destroyed three houses at Mulghat.
