Federal Probation and Parole Board recommends to send 285 prisoners on parole

On Friday the meeting of the Federal Probation and Parole Board, presided over by Attorney General Ramesh Badal, recommended sending 285 prisoners on parole.

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: On Friday the meeting of the Federal Probation and Parole Board, presided over by Attorney General Ramesh Badal, recommended sending 285 prisoners on parole. This meeting was meant to keep prisoners with good conduct on parole under Section 38 of the Criminal Offenses (Determination and Execution of Punishment) Act 2074 BS.


According to Suryaraj Dahal, Joint-attorney at the Office of the Attorney General, a convict who has been sentenced to imprisonment for more than a year and has served more than two-thirds of the prison sentence and has good conduct can be placed on parole.

The Act, however, prohibits the parole of those who have been sentenced to life imprisonment, corruption, extortion, human trafficking and smuggling, organized crime, money laundering, torture or cruel or inhuman treatment, crimes against humanity and crimes against the state.
