Lucky Sherpa has stepped down as the Ambassador to Australia stating that it was against her ethics to continue serving as the ambassador amid allegations of human trafficking. Sherpa resigned from her position following direction from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and co-chairperson of Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Democratic and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nationalist have forged an alliance today. Earlier, in November 2018, the unification between three RPPs (including the RPP led by Kamal Thapa) was foiled following differences over the unified party’s election symbol and political stand over the issue of monarchy. Then, Rana, had proposed 'plow' as an election symbol and declined to adopt constitutional monarchy as the new political line. However, according to the agreement between RPP (D) and RPP (N), the two parties have agreed to call for the reinstatement of a Hindu nation along with a democratic system of governance inclusive of the institution of monarchy.
With huge amount of national and foreign investments in cement industries, Nepal is self-reliant in cement production this year onwards. According to industrialists, cement industries have received the investment of around Rs 200 billion while this sector has the annual transaction of worth Rs 150 billion. Nepal has become self-reliant in cement production from zero level at the interval of 16 years with the entry of the private sector in the production of cement adding that Nepal is expected to export cement from the next fiscal year.
Police arrested doctors staging silent protests in support of Dr. Govinda KC from Teaching Hospital and Mahendra Police Club. The arrest comes after the Nepal Medical Association (NMA), the professional organization of doctors, announced a shutdown of all health services except emergency in government, public and private health facilities across the country today. NMA decided to halt the health services as an indicative protest against the government following the approval of the Medical Education Bill by the upper house of parliament on Thursday. Senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Govinda KC is on his 16th fast-unto-death demanding changes in the Bill.
