DANG, July 5: The family of a postpartum woman who died shortly after giving birth at Rapti Academy of Health Sciences (RAHS) has staged a protest, alleging medical negligence.
Guddi Sunar, 21, a resident of Brahmachari Tole in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City–18, was taken to the institute at around 4 a.m. on Friday after she went into labor. Although doctors initially said a normal delivery was likely, she was taken for a cesarean section around 10 a.m. After delivering a baby girl, she died shortly afterwards.

Family members have blamed doctors for negligence, saying her death was preventable. According to RAHS officials, some of the relatives forcefully entered the operation ward and physically assaulted a few medical personnel.
The victim’s father-in-law, Mahabir Sunar, said the family would not claim the body until justice is served. They have demanded compensation and proper medical care for the newborn.
Dr. Janardan Panthi, director at the RAHS, said an investigation is underway and the facts will be made public once the inquiry is complete.
