KATHMANDU, May 5: The pleadings began at District Court, Kathmandu on Sunday on whether or not to release the accused persons on the charge of their involvement in a fake Bhutanese refugee scam on bail.
Prosecutors from the District Public Prosecutor Office debated the case on Sunday in the single bench of Justice Prem Prasad Neupane.
Chief of the District Public Prosecutor's Office, Achyutmani Neupane, is leading the public prosecutors' team.
A total of 18 persons, including former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, were arrested on the charge of sending people abroad in the guise of Bhutanese refugees.
The pleading to request for or not bail will be conducted for all accused ones. The District Public Prosecutor's Office had registered a case against 30 accused under five different charges.
A total of 12 people accused in the scam are still on the run.
