Envoy Rae greeted with black flags while inaugurating incomplete postal highway

DHANGADHI, Jan 19: Minister for Physical Infrastruture and Transport, Ramesh Lekhak and Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Ranjit Rae have jointly inaugurated the 62-km-long postal highway which is still under-construction in Kailali district.

Meanwhile, shouting slogans such as ‘Down with Indian Expansionism’, cadres of the main opposition party, CPN-UML, and Janamorcha have greeted Ambassador Rae with black flags when he was called upon the stage during the inauguration program.

Police arrested six protestors including UML District Committee Member Dirgharaj Joshi, SP Arjun Chand told Republica Online.

The national anthems of both Nepal and India were played during the inauguration program.  No sooner India's national anthem was played, than the cadres started shouting slogans against Rae.

Of the total 62-km-long postal highway stretching from Dhangadhi to Sattis, a 18-km-long stretch which lies in Lalbodhi jungle, is yet to be constructed. Similarly, as many as six bridges are yet to be constructed along the highway.

The construction was halted after Indian contractors who were assigned for the task walked away leaving the work incomplete.
