Electrocution kills three farmers within a week

On Wednesday alone, two farmers lost their lives after being electrocuted while operating electric water pumps for irrigation.

RAUTAHAT, July 24: Three farmers have died of electrocution in a span of one week while irrigating their fields for paddy plantation in Rautahat.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajan Karki of the Area Police Office, Garuda, 40-year-old Rambabu Mukhiya of Bishanpurwa Manpur, Madhav Narayan Municipality-4, died after being electrocuted while pumping water to his paddy field using an electric motor. He sustained injuries from exposed wires and died during treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Gaur.


Similarly, 52-year-old Moktar Dewan, son of Lalmohammad Dewan of Jamuniya Tole, Katahariya Municipality-2, also died from electrocution while irrigating his field. He passed away during treatment at Grande Hospital in Garuda, according to police.


Earlier, on July 15, 14-year-old Narendra Patel, also known as Golu, son of Sudhan Raut from Sonarniya, Maulapur Municipality-8, had died after being electrocuted while pumping water to the field.


Due to a drought-like situation in the Terai region this year, many farmers have been forced to irrigate their fields using electric pumps to carry out paddy plantations.
