SOLUKHUMBU, Aug 11: An electrician died due to electrocution in Salleri, the district headquarters of Solukhumbu, while three others were injured.


According to the District Police Office, Biratnagar, Bishnu Rai, 43, a senior technician of the Salleri Chialsa Electricity Company (SCECO), died due to electrocution.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Chandra Kuber Khapung, Rai, who was electrocuted while trimming trees near an electric wire on Saturday noon, died during treatment at Phaplu Hospital on the same day. Rai originally hailed from Lokhim, Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality-9, and had been working in the SCECO since February 2010.


Mem Kumari Maskey, financial officer of the SCECO said that the injured Buddhi Raj Bhandari, 30, of Solududhkund Municipality-6, who is working as a technical assistant of the SCECO, Tasi Sherpa, 34, and Kumar Basnet, 51, are undergoing treatment at the Phaplu hospital.


According to SCECO, the body of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary of the district hospital for examinations while preparations are ongoing to take the injured to Kathmandu via helicopter for further treatment.


However, the Solukhumbu police declined to provide details of the incident. Despite the DIG himself being deployed in the incident that occurred at the headquarters, the police declined to provide the details of the injured and the deceased. According to SCECO, the company is providing electricity service to about 3,400 houses in the surrounding areas including the Salleri headquarters.
