The current government, formed on the backing of the Gen Z movement, has been facing criticism for failing to take concrete steps to address the group’s demands. The formation of the council is seen as an attempt to respond to those concerns.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, who is also the government’s spokesperson, said the cabinet meeting also decided to authorise district courts to prosecute and adjudicate cases related to offences under Section 140 of the Insurance Act, 2022.
