KATHMANDU, Dec 7: Poll preparation in all seven districts of Province-1 is complete, according to the regional election office of Biratnagar. Among the 14 districts of the province, seven districts have already witnessed parliamentary and provincial elections in the first phase. The first phase elections were held in hill and mountain districts including Taplegunj, Panchthar, Sankhuwashabha, Bhojpur, Khotang, Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu on November 26. The elections in the remaining seven districts, namely Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Tehrathum and Udaypur, will be held on Thursday.

Security situation in the polling centers, other preparations and distribution of voter identity cards went smooth, according to the office.

“Voters have been well educated on how to vote confidentially. Voters are well aware that they will have to enter the polling area from one lane and return back from different lane after casting votes. They know how to use rubber stamp and how to fold it and drop it into box,” said Prem Prasad Sanjel, regional chief of the election office, Biratnagar. “We have also made it easier for the voters to get their details by posting charts at walls in the polling centers,” he added.

Sanjel stated that some polling stations have been categorized as extremely sensitive and extra security has been managed there. “For instance, Morang shares border with India. So, there are centers where we need to take extra care,” he said.

According to CDO of Morang, Ram Prasad Acharya, the border has been sealed and security provision in Morang has been well managed.
