Did you know that stressed spelled backwards is desserts? And really, there’s nothing a bit of chocolate can’t fix as it’s the ultimate comfort food. The Week snooped around the beautifully scented bakeries of Lalitpur in their hunt for the perfect cakes. Here is a list of eight delightful places you can head to for some sinfully good desserts.
Dhokaima special brownie with ice cream @ Dhokaima, Patan Dhoka
A serene getaway for a bite to eat, Dhokaima is, as the name suggests, right at the main gate of Patan Dhoka. Dhokaima’s warm chocolate brownie with a tinge of dark chocolate is rich in taste.
The miniature walnuts lodged in between its buttery smoothness makes one feel the warmth grazing on their tongues as it melts in your mouth. The vanilla ice cream garnished with chocolate syrup nicely complements the brownie. It couldn’t be any better.
Strawberry Pastry @ Royal Bakery, Jhamsikhel
Aromatic smell of coffee beans lingers in the comfortable enclosure of the bakery. The sweet tangy strawberry pastry served on a warm plate is a treasure of soft sponginess layered generously with chunky strawberry tarts in the middle.
Smooth strawberry syrup with sprinkles of éclairs chips and white chocolate serves as a topping. It’s a treat prepared with attention to details and absolutely no compromise in quality.

Mousseline Cream Cake @Crave, Krishna Galli
Rich chocolaty in taste, the Mousseline cake is a three layered delicacy. Black sponge with chocolate syrup serves as the base with a filling of mushy chocolate Mousseline. As you cut through the soft layers and savor a bite, you can taste the cold mixture of deep cocoa blended with light cream.
This is a slice of pure bliss on a plate. Crave is a smartly designed bakery-cum-restaurant with an extended place to hang out for a family dinner or a date night.
CJ Blueberry Cheese Cake @ Sing Ma Foodcourt, Pulchowk
CJ blueberry cheese cake has the goodness of Australian cheese with chunks of blueberry flesh sprinkled on top of its richly gelled jam. The Aussie cheese gives a salty taste to the richness of the rough yet seamless texture while boasting of good health benefits.
The base consists of soft buttery cookie which creates a nice balancing out of contradictory flavors. This cheese cake is perhaps one of the best cheese cakes in the entire Lalitpur area.
Pink Lemonade @ Hessed, Pulchowk
A new flavor introduced in the cupcake haven, Pink Lemonade is an absolute delight. With its attractive yellow color, intricate frosting details, and lime sprinkles, the look itself stimulates the taste buds.
The dash of salty cream complements the plainness of the muffin and the buttery cream well balances the sweetness of the sprinkles. Hessed also has a variety of other cupcakes from strawberry flavored cupcakes to red velvet that are little bites of marvel.
White Forest @ Makoo Bakery, Jawalakhel
Nestled just behind the Nepal telecom building in Jawalakhel, Makoo Bakery is quite a busy place catering to hundreds of customers on a daily basis. The white forest cake, among all the other delicious cakes, deserves a special mention because of its simplicity. It’s soft and smooth, and very light too.
The cream is nicely whipped and doesn’t leave a sticky, sweet aftertaste. The upside of Makoo Bakery is that all the items here are reasonably priced besides being really, really tasty.
Carrot Cake and Chocolate Lava Cake @ Higher Ground, Bhanimandal
There will always be a whiff of chocolate and coffee in the air at the Higher Ground Bakery because all their items are freshly made. From breads and cookies to an array of cakes and drinks, Higher Ground serves some of the best breakfast and snack items. Their chocolate lava cake with the thick rich chocolaty middle is a miniature delight that will leave you craving for more.
Equally satisfying, the carrot cake infused with cinnamon and butter is another heavenly treat. The thickness of the cake blends perfectly with the taste of cinnamon and carrot complementing each other. These delicacies go well with both cold sweet drinks as well as the hot ones.
Mocha Swiss Roll @ Julie’s, Kupondole
The mocha swiss roll at Julie’s can be regarded as a delicious mixture of soft juicy sponge that blends really well with the coldness of the cream. The roll bursts with the flavor of chocolate sponge mixed with coffee beans and ice-cream. The swiss roll is kept in deep freeze and taken out at room temperature right before it’s served.
Following this regime softens the sponge from the outside while the cream inside freezes more, resulting in the perfect balance of soft cold cream and soft-coarse texture of the sponge.
