KATHMANDU, OCT 29: The Election Commission (EC) has stepped up its effort to find people involved in provoking fake and fabricated information against the candidates contesting in the November 20 elections in social media platforms.

Expressing its concern over the ‘No, Not Again’ campaign directed against a section of top political leaders in social media platforms, the EC held a meeting involving experts and officials concerned on Friday. A Task Force of the EC has started the search operation to find out those responsible for the controversial campaign in social media.

EC officials said the participants of the Friday meeting even suspected that cadres and leaders of political parties could have been involved in the misconduct to defame the contesting candidates. “Many political leaders even suspected the involvement of other members from their own group for the misconduct,” said the EC source.

Issuing a press statement earlier last week, the EC said that it had taken cognizance of some social site users publishing misleading and biased contents and giving offensive statements against candidates vying in the upcoming elections. The election body had also warned of taking stringent action against those involved in such acts.
