KATHMANDU, Jan 22: As part of holding the upper house election slated for February 7, the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday made public the name list of voters who will elect 56 members of the 59-member upper house of federal parliament.
The list was made public by the election offices established in seven provinces for the purpose. Chief and deputy-chiefs of 753 local units and 550 members of provincial assemblies will elect 56-members of the upper house based on single transferable voting system while the government will appoint the remaining three members.
The election body has asked the general public to register complaints, if any, against those in the voter list.
According to EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal, altogether 2056 elected peoples' representatives will participate in the upper house election. Of the total 1,506 elected people's representatives at the local units, 718 women are male whereas 788 male. Likewise, 361 are male and 189 female provincial assembly members.
Most voters are from Province 1.
