"The EC is an independent body that is run as per the constitution and laws," said Yadav speaking at the Reporters´ Club in the capital Thursday, adding, "It is not run through gentlemen´s agreement." [break]
Defending the EC decision to scrap the recent transfers, Yadav, who also heads the code of conduct monitoring committee of the commission, said the home ministry had not written any letter to the commission seeking nod for transferring Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) and Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs).
A cabinet meeting on Monday had transferred 5 AIGs and 19 DIGs and had demoted the Acting General Manager of the state-run Nepal Television (NTV) Deepakmani Dhital from his duty.
When asked why EC did not take action against government´s decision to relieve Dhital from his duty, Yadav said, "We have taken it seriously and have directed our officials to probe the matter."
Speaking at the same function, Minster for Land Reforms and Management Chandra Dev Joshi said the November-22 election of the Constituent Assembly (CA) cannot be imagined until political parties forge consensus for the polls.
"Key issues like the modality of the CA elections, the number of members to be elected and the term of the CA are still not clear," Joshi said.
