Eastern City ignoring building codes

BIRATNAGAR, Oct 30: It has been revealed that Eastern City - the first housing project in Biratnagar - is accepting booking for its apartments without following due legal procedure.



Going by existing laws, housing companies must follow building codes prescribed by Town Development Committee Act- 1989. They should also seek prior permission from concerned municipality office and urban development office. [break]



Eastern City Developers - the promoters of Eastern City - have already received booking amount for 40 apartments, according a promoter of the project. The company has priced its apartments between Rs 1.4 million to Rs 6 million. The project is expected to be completed within the next two and a half years.



Tapendra Khadka, chief of Urban Development and Building Construction Office, Biratnagar, said housing companies cannot sell apartments or accept bookings without following due procedures. “Eastern City Developers has applied for permission, but it has yet to receive permission,” Khadka added.



Ganesh Agrawal, chief of Eastern City Developers, said they were in the process of getting permission for the project. “We will complete all legal procedures. We have already received the approval from Biratnagar Municipality,” he added.
