The cake mixing ceremony is a traditional event that marks the beginning of the holiday season, especially in Western countries and is often associated with Christmas celebrations. During this ceremony, various dried fruits, nuts, and spices are mixed with alcohol such as rum or brandy and left to soak for several weeks or months.
This fun tradition involves preparing and mixing dry fruits such as apricots, figs, cashew nuts, raisins and black currants with wine, rum, brandy and whiskey. For this, fruits are laid out and then spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg are sprinkled into the mix after which alcohol is poured on the mixing table.
It is believed that fruits should be soaked and mixed for more than a month prior to get an authentic taste and flavor of Christmas cake.
This mixture is later used to bake Christmas cakes, fruitcakes, or other festive baked goods. The ceremony itself is often a social event where family and friends gather to participate in the mixing, which is sometimes accompanied by music, decorations, and festivities. It's a way to kick off the holiday season and prepare ingredients for delicious treats that will be enjoyed during Christmas and other winter holidays.
