KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has raided five business firms and a law firm owned by senior advocate Shambhu Thapa, on the charges of tax evasion.

A squad deployed from the DRI on Friday raided Kathmandu valley-based two law firms, two engineering consultancies and one Chartered Accountant consultancy and a private medical clinic.

The Director General at the  DRI, Khumaraj Punjali informed that they raided six business firms suspecting that they were avoiding income tax for a long time. The RID team has also seized official documents and computers from those firms. [break]

“After the investigation, we will be able to find out whether those firms have avoided the income tax or not,” DG Punjali told Republica Online.

Meanwhile, Thapa, a former president of Nepal Bar Association, declined the charges saying that it was a ploy against him by the Khil Raj Regmi-led government and Chief of Commission of Investigation for Abuse of Authority, Lokman Singh Karki.
