KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Demanding the reforms in the medical education, Dr Govinda KC, senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), has decided to begin his 12th fast-unto-death from Monday.
Dr KC has decided to start his sudden protest as the House is likely to endorse new Medical Education Act with the influence of medical mafias.
Dr KC to start 12th hunger strike today
Dr KC said that the government did not show seriousness to address his demands.
Earlier the bill was endorsed by the Women, Children, Senior Citizen and Social Welfare Committee before it was tabled in the House. During the endorsement, Rajendra Pandey and other lawmakers modified the bill for benefit of private medical college operators at a time when Dr KC was on hunger strike.
Dr KC, however, withdrew his strike following the commitment from government to address his demands while tabling in the Parliament meeting.
Breaching the agreement, the government registered the bill in the Parliament without comprising the demands of Dr KC. After learning that Parliament Secretariat has listed the bill to be discussed in the Parliament on Monday, Dr KC has prepared to start the fresh protest at TUTH, Maharajgunj.
