Double delight for VS Niketan

KATHMANDU, June 26: VS Niketan defeated defending champion Trinity College in the men´s category of the ongoing Second Nobel Cup National 3-on-3 Basketball Championship on Sunday.



VS took the first period 14-3 and scored seven points against five in the second to seal victory. According to the game´s rules, a team is declared the winner if it manages to score 21 points inside the regular 10 minutes.[break]



In the course of registering its second victory of the day, VS routed Brooklyn 18-4. VS took both the periods 9-4 and 9-0 respectively.



In the other match played at the Dasharath Stadium, defending champion Trinity was again defeated by Morgan ´B´ 16-7. Morgan took the first period 9-1 and the second 8-6.



Likewise, Morgan ´B´ beat Brooklyn College 15-10 as with scores of 4-3 and 11-7 in the two periods.



In another match, the Kirtipur team comprising players selected from the Talent Hunt was disqualified as it was found to have fielded unregistered players. Kirtipur had defeated Nobel ´B´ 11-8 before getting disqualified.



Meanwhile, White House ´B´ defeated NIMS 8-4 in a low-scoring affair. White House took both the periods 3-1, 5-3. Likewise, National ´A´ registered a narrow 17-15 win over host Nobel ´A´. Despite losing the first period 9-11, National took the second period 8-4 to seal victory. In another match, Morgan ´A´ beat IMS 17-13 taking the first and second periods 11-8, 6-5 respectively.



White House ´A´ beat Platinum 17-12 with scores of 6-5 and 11-7 in the first and second periods. Similarly, National ´B´ registered a 11-7 victory over Premier College. National scored 5-3 in the first period and took the second 6-4. Host Nobel ´C´ suffered a narrow 14-12 defeat at the hands of NIMS. The first period ended 9-9 but NIMS took the second 5-3.



White House ´B´ defeated host Nobel ´B´ as it reached 21 points before the regular time. White House took the first period 12-7 and scored nine points against eight of the host for victory. Nobel ´A´ boosted its chances of qualifying for the knockout stage after registering an 18-11 victory over Premier. Nobel took both the periods 7-4 and 11-7 respectively.



Morgan ´A´ thrashed Platinum 16-7 scoring 8-7, 8-0 in the two periods. Newcomer Liverpool College overpowered Nobel ´C´ 17-8. Liverpool took the first period 10-7 and the second 7-3. In the last match of the day, Unity received a walkover from Syrus College.



In the women´s section, defending champion Morgan College ´A´ beat Xavier International ´B´ 21-3. Morgan took the first period 10-2 and the second 11-1.



Likewise, Host Nobel ´C´ edged past Morgan ´B´ by a single point. A one-point lead in the first period that ended 4-3 proved crucial for the host as the second period ended 5-5. Rato Bangala defeated Texas ´A´ 9-7 as it took the first period 6-4 and drew 3-3 in the second. Xavier International ´A´ overcame Nobel ´C´ 12-10 after a 5-5 draw in the first period.



NASA ´B´ thrashed the Talent Hunt team 12-5. NASA took a one-point lead in the first period with the score of 5-4 and took the second 7-1. Likewise, NASA ´A´ beat Trinity 11-4. NASA scored 5-1 in the first period and 6-3 in the second. In the last match of the day in women´s section, Trinity defeated Texas ´A´ 6-4. Having lost the first period 3-1, Trinity came back to take the second 5-1 and with it the match.
