Doctors to continue protests

KATHMANDU, Dec 28: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) refused to withdraw their strike, as was expected, following an emergency cabinet meeting on Monday. [break]



The cabinet meeting convened by Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar specifically to address the doctors’ issue decided to form a ministerial level taskforce and introduce health protection regulation within a month.



“Our demands have not been met by the decisions. So, we will continue with our pre-declared strike for now,” NMA President Kedar Narsing KC told myrepublica.com.



He however added that they would hold a meeting later on the day to take further discussions on the decisions.



The cabinet meeting chaired by acting PM Gachchhadar formed a taskforce under Health Minister that includes Finance Minister, Law Minister and General Administration Minister and Health Secretary.



The cabinet also urged the doctors to withdraw their protest.



Doctors have stopped all services, except emergency, in all government and private hospitals across the country on Monday.
