GORKHA, August 11: A team of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has returned from Northern Gorkha after conducting a field study of the region on Wednesday. According to Surendra Raj Pandey, central member of the Nepali Congress (NC) and a member of the disaster committee, the team observed the condition of roads and bridges that were damaged by the recent landslides in the region. Also, 12 quintals of food supplies were transported to the region by a military helicopter.

The team consisted of CEO of the NDRRMA, Anil Pokhrel, central member of Nepali Congress Surendra Raj Pandey, Chief of Chumnubri Municipality Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Chief District Officer of Gorkha, Saligram Sharma Poudel, SP Sekhar Khanal and a team of engineers.

According to Anil Pokhrel, the food supplies were delivered to a warehouse. “Our team was able to distribute the food supplies as well as conduct a study in the area,” he said. The NDRRMA will help in the reconstruction of roads, bridges, and houses that were affected by landslides, CEO Pokhrel informed Republica.

“There is a need to start a joint settlement rather than keeping long distance between houses,” Pokhrel said. “We decided to visit the region after chief Dhan Bahadur Gurung of Chumnubri Municipality repeatedly urged the government to reconstruct a roadway to the municipality after suspension bridges were destroyed by the recent landslides,” he said.
