GORKHA, July 7: A police constable stationed at Samagaun of northern Gorkha district has gone missing since June 15. According to Shekhar Khanal, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the district, police constable Mohan Singh Kunwar has been out of contact for three weeks.
KATHMANDU, April 25: The sixth memorial day of the Gorkha Earthquake that occurred six years ago is being observed on Sunday by conducting various awareness programs while maintaining health safety standards. On the occasion, the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has organized workshops regarding the impacts of earthquakes, the lessons learned and the achievements made so far by the agency. According to the NRA Joint-spokesperson Manohar Ghimire, work papers will be presented at the program and experts will comment on them as well.
KATHMANDU, April 21: The renowned Manakamana, Gorakhnath and Gorkhkali temples will remain closed from Wednesday until the end of the Nepali month of Baisakh (mid-May). The District Administration Office, Gorkha, has announced that all monasteries, temples, churches, and mosques in the district will be closed till mid-May.
GORKHA, Feb 9: Three incidents of rape and attempted rape have been reported in five days in Gorkha. Between February 2 and February 7, a total of three such incidents were reported to the police station.
KATHMANDU, Feb 8: A 4-year-old girl studying in grade 1 was raped in her school in Gorkha. Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy of the same school on the charge of raping the girl in a toilet of the school.

GORKHA, Oct 23: A palanquin with 'fulpati' has been dispatched to Hanumandhoka in Kathmandu from the Dashain Ghar at Gorkha Durbar today on the seventh day of Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal. Fulpati is a collection of seven different plants that are considered auspicious during Dashain.
GORKHA, April 24: Five years have shot by since a major earthquake hit Nepal. Gorkha -- the epicenter of the earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale -- was almost completely destroyed by that earthquake in April 2015. Five years since that day, Gorkha now wears a different look.
GORKHA, Mar 1: Demanding a permanent solution to the dilapidated and dusty roads, the locals of Nayasaghu, Siranchowk Rural Municipality of Gorkha have taken to the streets. In recent days, they have been demonstrating on the street against Nagarjun Trishuli JV Construction Company which is responsible for repairing and blacktopping the Barhakilo–Barpak road section. The blacktopping was supposed to be completed last year but it is not near completion yet. On Friday, the locals even blocked the road for sometime as a symbolic protest against the poor road condition.
GORKHA, Feb 23: The registration of cottage industries in Gorkha district has increased significantly after the local government decided to carry out strict inspection on businesses. The local government has also put forth a provision which makes registration compulsory to receive subsidy. From mid-July to mid-January of the current fiscal year, 575 hotels and restaurants were registered with the Cottage and Small Industry of Gorkha.
GORKHA, Feb 13: The national pride project, Budhigandaki Hydropower Project, has distributed a total of Rs 28.18 billion to acquire private land. According to the project officials, the amount for the acquisition of 45,777 ropani of land in Gorkha and Dhading districts belonging to 21,159 households has been released.

GORKHA, Dec 2: Locals of Doyal and Payau villages in Gorkha have demanded resettlement in safer zone following high risk of landslides in the hills. Recurring landslides since the devastating earthquake of 2015 have already displaced a dozen families in those villages. And the fear not only persists, it has actually aggravated as the hills look more fragile and landslides have been more frequent.

GORKHA, Sept 9: A total of 490 schools in Gorkha, which were damaged by the devastating earthquake of 2015, have now received new or repaired buildings. According to Bishnu Prasad Mishra, chief of the project implementation unit in Gorkha, rooms that were partially or fully damaged have been rebuilt.

GORKHA, July 31: The blacktopping of a 30-kilometer stretch of a road in Bapark has come to a standstill as the road project office scrapped the agreement with the contractor, Nagarjun/Trishuli JV, citing extreme negligence in work. The stretch covers one-fourth of the Barhakilo–Barpak road.
