The ongoing Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party on Wednesday formed the committee to formulate the party´s plan and policies on political, social, economic and organizational issues for the next five years.[break] The draft will also incorporate issues related to federalism, inclusive representation and other concurrent national issues.
According to NC Spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC, the committee has been asked to submit the draft report to the CWC meeting within three weeks starting Wednesday.
NC office bearers had proposed formation of various eleven committees and naming their coordinators during the CWC meeting on Tuesday.
The proposal had drawn flak as the CWC members argued that it would be better either to form a single committee or just four committees -- political, social, economic and organizational. A large number of CWC members had also expressed reservation over the names chosen to head the committees.
The CWC meeting finally arrived at consensus to form a single committee under Deuba´s chair after hours-long discussions. The draft proposal once endorsed by the CWC meeting will be sent to all district working committees for necessary feedback. The draft would then be presented in the upcoming 12th general convention by incorporating suggestions received from the district committees.
Speaking during the meeting on Tuesday, NC General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi said the new plans and policies should be able to initiate changes in the party. He had suggested that the plan and polices should be able to chart out party´s course of action on how to take the ongoing peace process to a logical end and promulgate the new constitution.
Members of the Draft Committee include Gopal Man Shrestha, Ram Krishna Tamrakar, Chiranjivi Wagle, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, Bhim Bahadur Tamang, Chakra Prasad Bastola, Mahesh Acharya and Krishna Prasad Situala and Binaya Dhwoj Chanda. Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Amar Raj Kaini, Farmullah Mansur, Man Bahadur Bishwokarma, Padam Narayan Chaudhari, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Padma Narayan Chaudhary, N P Saud, Shiva Chandra Mishra, Suprabha Ghimire and Purushottam Basnet.
NC officially initiates discussion on govt´s alternative
NC has officially started discussions on alternative to the current government amid requests from Prime Minister Madhav Nepal to that effect.
During the CWC meeting on Tuesday, NC General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi put forth the issue of government leadership for discussion among the CWC members. Nidhi had alleged that the Maoists not in favor of concluding the peace process. Stating that the possibility of the formation of national consensus government is slim, Nidhi had proposed holding discussions on alternative leadership of the government from within the coalition partners.
The CWC meeting could not dwell on the leadership issue on Wednesday. The meeting scheduled for Thursday will take up the issue, according to NC spokesperson KC.
