Once the US Senate confirms his nomination, DeLisi will head for Nepal. The date of the hearing has not been set yet. If confirmed, he will succeed Nancy J Powell who left for a posting in the Department of State in the second week of July. She had served for nearly two years in Nepal.
DeLisi has served for 28 years in the Department of State. Currently DeLisi is the Director of Career Development and Assignments in the State Department´s Bureau of Human Resources where he has played a key role in the staffing of embassies, according to the press release. He had served as US ambassador to the State of Eritrea and as Deputy Chief of Mission of the American Embassy in Gaborone, Botswana. DeLisi had also served as Director for Southern African Affairs, Vice Counsel for the Embassy in India, the Chief of Political Section in Sri Lanka, in addition to other postings in Madagascar and Pakistan. A native of Minnesota state, DeLisi holds both a BA and JD from the University of Minnesota.
President Obama who announced the nomination, among other nominations in Washington DC, said, "These individuals bring a depth of experience to their respective roles, and I am confident they will serve my administration and the American people well. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead."
