Darchula Flood: relief materials stuck in Dadeldhura

By No Author
DADELDHURA, June 25: As hundreds of flood victims starve in Darchula, a huge amount of food items meant for them are under the risk of roting in Dadeldhura.

The Surkhet-based regional office of the Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) dropped 583 sacks of rice, 10 sacks of pulse, 16 sacks of sugar and 50 cartons of edible oil in Dadeldhura for the Darchula flood victims five days ago. But the local administration has yet not been able to transport the food items to Darchula due to adverse weather. [break]

As the Baitadi-Darchula road has been badly damaged and the Nepal Army (NA)´s choppers have not been able to reach Dadeldhura due to adverse weather, the relief food items have been stored in a warehouse. As part of the warehouse floor is covered in water, the food items are at the risk of rotting.

"Rains have made it difficult for us to protect the relief food items," said Dan Bahadur Dinal, an employee of the NFC, Surkhet. Some sacks of rice, sugar and pulse have already soaked in water.
