KATHMANDU, April 2: A day after he was spotted at the cricket grounds at Kitritpur, the UCPN (Maoist) on Monday withdrew the suspension of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s son Prakash. A meeting of party office bearers also decided to give him back his earlier responsibilities.

"First, Prakash has mentioned discipline. Secondly, he has realized his mistake. [break]Thirdly, the time [of suspension] is over," said Chudamani Khadka, secretary to Dahal. He also informed that the duration of such action is around six months and Prakash had crossed that time. Interestingly, the duration of the action was not announced when he was suspended last July.

Dahal himself had registered the suspension proposal at a central committee meeting and endorsed the office bearers´ decision against Prakash, a state affairs committee member, for his alleged illicit relationship with Newa State Committee member and student leader Bina Magar. Magar too was suspended from Newa State Committee membership.

Maoist leaders say that Prakash has apologized through media.

Their affair developed while the duo undertook the Lumbini-Mount Everest Peace March in 2012. Both Prakash and Magar were married to their respective spouses. Dahal was accompanied by seven other members including Magar of the ´Lumbini-Mount Everest Peace March 2012,´ which had earlier refused Rs 20 million extended from state coffers for their trip after opposition parties warned of protests against the government aid. Prakash and Bina scaled Everest on May 26.

The duo were reportedly living together in New Delhi before Prakash attended a cricket match between Nepal and Singapore at TU cricket grounds, Kirtipur on Sunday.

Prakash was married twice before. The first marriage, in 2006, was to the daughter of Posta Bahadur Bogati. Less than a year after divorcing his first wife, he had a second marriage, to Srijana Pathak, a village girl. The couple have a one and half year-old son.

Bina was once married to Shankar Adhikari, who is also a Maoist student leader. Adhikari has now joined the CPN-Maoist.

Maoist insiders say that Dahal wants to groom his son as his successor. His moves time and again show that he wants to groom Prakash.

At the Chunbang meeting, the turning point for the Maoists towards a parliamentary system, the central committee was downsized to 35 from 95.

The party had decided to demote some central committee members on the pretext of purification of the party. All central committee members except 35 were relegated to state committee members.

But Prakash was promoted to state committee member.

After the Prakash and Bina case, those close to Dahal also had used the social network facebook to criticize Prakash. Prakash had said on BBC radio that he had made a mistake. He did not mention whether he was still with Bina or not, whether or not he had married her.
