KATHMANDU, Jan 17: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has asked Nepali Congress (NC) to join the Maoist-led government. Dahal made the request during his meeting with NC President Sushil Koirala at the former´s residence at Naya Bazar, Monday.

Koirala in response asked Chairman Dahal to expedite the ongoing peace process in both letter and spirit of the seven-point agreement reached on November1, 2011. [break]

"NC can think about joining the government only if the peace process is expedited as per the past agreements," NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat quoted Koirala as telling Dahal.

The Maoist chairman had laid emphasis on constitution drafting process and also asked Koirala to become more flexible on the standard norms for combatants integration and integration numbers.

"But President Koirala replied that NC cannot think anything beyond what has been agreed in the seven-point agreement. He also stressed honest implementation of the seven-point deal," added Dr Mahat.

Koirala also told Dahal that NC is vehemently opposed to breaching the existing standard recruitment norms of Nepal Army.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, Dahal´s personal aide Sameer Dahal said Chairman Dahal told Koirala that the Maoist central committee has successfully completed and he will work in responsible manner for taking forward the constitution writing and the peace process. The two leaders also discussed implementation of the seven-point deal and subsequent six-point deal.
