DHANGADHI, Jan 30: Chairman of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has claimed that the party's Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam has given assurance that he would soon join their faction of the party.

Addressing a mass rally organized by his faction of the NCP in Dhangadhi on Saturday, Dahal said that Gautam had given him the assurance to be part of his faction during his talk with Gautam over the phone on Friday. "I had a telephonic conversation with Bam Dev Gautam. He said that he will soon join us when I invited him to join our rallies and address the party cadres.

Vice Chairman Gautam has not joined any of the two factions of the party. Earlier last month, he launched a campaign called the National Party Unification Campaign in order to keep the unity of the NCP intact. "He has been trying to keep the party united. I have asked him to make maximum efforts for this cause. But I told him that we decided to part our ways as we failed to keep the party united," he said.

In a separate context, Dahal said that former Maoist leader Lekharaj Bhatt, whom he ‘groomed’ and made a minister time and again, had decided to become an ‘accomplice’ of Prime Minister Oli's regressive and unconstitutional move. He also expressed that the majority of NCP leaders and cadres had not joined the Oli-led faction after Bhatt decided to join Oli's faction.
