During the weeklong residential training held at Garayala village in western Rukum, 36 district cadres were trained in warfare skills. According to CPN-Maoist district leader Sher Bahadur KC, the weeklong training mainly focused on warfare skills and political orientation. [break]
The cadres were taught martial arts techniques, ways of using batons, making bombs and detonating explosives. It may be recalled that Ram Bahadur Thapa and some other key CPN-Maoist leaders had given similar trainings before the UCPN (Maoist) launched armed insurgency in 1996 in the foothills of Maurikhara in the same district. The Maoist party has chosen the same area this time around also.
“For now, we have trained our cadres in self defense,” said KC. “We gave only theoretical training on using weapons as giving a practical training would send a wrong message.” After receiving the training, the cadres have fanned out to intensify the party´s anti-election campaign.
