KATHMANDU May 30: The government has removed the requirement of mandatory negative PCR test reports and Covid-19 vaccination certificate for international air travelers visiting Nepal.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MOCTCA) sent a letter to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), instructing the regulatory body to implement the decision regarding the COVID-19 protocol. According to the ministry, the decision was taken upon the recommendation of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Coordination Center (CCMCC). A meeting of the CCMCC held on May 14 had recommended the government to remove the provision of mandatory PCR test for air travelers. The authorities implemented the change to the regulations accordingly.

With the removal of this rule, foreigners visiting Nepal will no longer have to carry the vaccination QR code or a negative PCR report. Passengers going abroad from Nepal may still have to carry the needed documents depending on their destination. The decision comes in the wake of the World Health Organization issuing a recommendation on May 5, 2023 to remove COVID-19’s status as a global health emergency.
