Coup rumor baseless: NA

KATHMANDU, April 26: The army headquarters has ruled out the possibility of the army staging a coup in the country and has refuted media reports and rumors about a possible attempt at regime change. Chief of the army´s Directorate of Public Relations Ramindra Chhetri on Sunday also requested the public not to believe in the “baseless reports.”



“We have also heard the rumor throughout the day,” he said. “But we want to make it clear that the Nepal Army is fully committed to democracy and that it respects the constitution and the laws. We want to give this message to the people and the international community.”



Chhetri said he had discussed the issue with the Army Chief and senior generals on Sunday. Maoist leaders have repeatedly told mediapersons and also the parliament that Army Chief Rookmangud Katawal was planning a coup.
