Controversial treaties won't be signed:DPM Shrestha

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that controversial treaties will not be signed during the Prime Minister´s India visit scheduled from Thursday.



Speaking at the meeting of Legislature-Parliament Committee on International Relations and Human Rights today, he said no controversial treaties will be signed as Prime Minister’s visit was merely a goodwill visit. [break]



Priority will be given to reduce the criminal activities across the border areas, inundation problem caused by Laxmanpur Dam, and the issues of Bhutanese Refugee, said Shrestha.



Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai will hold necessary discussion for reducing the country´s huge trade deficit with India, said DPM Shrestha. He added the visit will stress for removing double tax system and promotion of export from Nepal to India.



Shrestha however said treaty on soft loan for the economic development of the country can be signed and the government will urge the Indian government to increase the loan for Nepal’s infrastructure development.



During the meeting, committee’s members stressed for taking stance on the issues of national interests, not to sign the agreement on allowing air marshal and extradition treaty.
