KATHMANDU, April 10: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has directed its leader and House of Representative (HoR) Member Dr Dhaka Kumar Shrestha to submit a clarification within 24 hours on a controversial audio tape of his phone conversation with the controversial businessman circulated in the public media outlets.
Issuing a press statement on Sunday, RSP General Secretary and Spokesperson Dr Mukul Dhakal stated that MP Shrestha has been directed not to carry out any of the activities in the capacity of RSP's general member.
RSP seeks clarification from MP Shrestha about leaked audio
According to Spokesperson Dhakal, the party's central disciplinary committee has been directed to probe into the telephone call and submit the report to the party within three days. As circulated in the media outlets, Dr Shrestha has sought money from a business person stating that money was needed for him to support the party to become the Health Minister.
Meanwhile, Dr Shrestha claimed that the voice was edited in the said dialogue between him and medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai. His secretariat has issued a press release claiming that the audio for which Rs 20 million was demanded from Prasai does not belong to Shrestha. In the statement, it is also said that Shrestha's voice was edited and a conspiracy was made to target his political future.
Shrestha's secretariat has also warned that stricter action will be taken against the media who publish that audio tape according to the Electronic Act 2064.
