KATHMANDU, March 24: Conflict victims and human rights activists have staged a sit-in in front of Bir Hospital on the occasion of International Day for Right to Truth on Friday.


Conflict victims including Ganga Maya Adhikari, Suman Adhikari, Janak Bahadur Raut took part in the protest. Similarly human rights activists Charan Prasain, Rajan Kuinkel, Krishna Gautam among others joined the sit-in.


Speaking at the sit-in program, Suman Adhikari said, “The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) is dillydallying to disclose the facts. It should investigate into the cases of murders and abductions carried out during the Maoist insurgency and make the facts public right away."

Similarly, human rights activist Charan Prasain said that the TRC should look into the grave human rights violations committed during the Maoist insurgency and make the facts public immediately.


Maoist combatants had abducted Mukti Prasad Adhikari, father of Suman Adhikari, and subsequently killed him by hanging from a tree on June 2, 2002 while he was teaching at Panini Sanskrit Secondary School in Lamjung. 


Similary Ganga Maya’s son Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Fujel, Gorkha was killed by Maoist combatants in June 2004 in Chitwan.


His father Nanda Prasad Adhikari died while continuing fast-unto-death demanding punishment against the murderers.


The sit-in program lasted for an hour  from 8:30 am today.
