According to Dr Pukar Chandra Shrestha, director of the hospital, renowned singers like Ani Choying Drolma, Yogeshwor Amatya, Nhu Bajracharya and others will perform in the concert. "We have decided to organize musical concert to make people aware about increasing cases of kidney related problems," said Dr Pukar Chandra Shreshtha, director of the hospital, adding, "We think that music is the best means to create awareness."

The hospital said that an awareness rally participated by doctors, nurses and representatives from social organizations will walk the city streets before the concert. The hospital will also organize screening camp to identify renal problems.

Dr Shrestha claims each year about 3,000 people suffer from the problem of kidney failure. The doctors said that about 300,000 people in Nepal have some kinds of kidney disease.

"People should be aware of kidney disease. Common citizens cannot afford the treatment so it is better to apply precaution measures," Dr Shresta added. He said that problems can be prevented if it is diagnosed early.

Dr Shrestha asked people to conduct annual health checkup. Risk will be reduced if problems like hypertension, diabetes are controlled, he added. He also asked the people to adopt active lifestyle, and be conscious about eating habits.

Meanwhile, the hospital said that it will declare free dialysis service soon as it is going to sign agreement with the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). The MoHP has decided to refund the hospitals that have agreement with the ministry.

The hospital has been providing each session of dialysis service for just Rs 250. Patients, whose both kidneys have failed, must undergo dialysis at least twice a week. Some private centers have been charging over Rs 5,000 per dialysis.

The ministry has been collecting data on renal patients to formulate a policy on free service.
