KATHMANDU, July 14: Three years ago, on July 12, 2021 (Asar 28, 2078), CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli was ousted from the government following a Supreme Court verdict. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba then assumed command of the government. Coincidentally, three years later, Sher Bahadur Deuba, president of the Nepali Congress, approached President Ram Chandra Paudel with signatures of support from his party to make KP Sharma Oli the prime minister.
Commenting on this political event, Nepali Congress Joint General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali remarked on social media late Friday night, saying, "Ashar 28 from three years ago and today's Ashar 28! Time is powerful."
Never ready Nepal
On the fateful day three years ago, Oli's government was removed based on the Supreme Court's mandate. Consequently, then-President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister for the fifth time.
On Ashar 28 this year, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal sought a vote of confidence. However, his attempt to garner parliamentary support failed. After failing to secure the vote, he vacated the official residence in Baluwatar on Friday and moved to his private residence in Khumaltar. Consequently, late at night, both the Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) pressed their claim to form the government.
Three years ago, Deuba reached an agreement with the CPN (Maoist Centre) to oust Oli. This time, Deuba managed to bring Oli back into power.
Despite being removed from Baluwatar and going to Balkot, Oli indicated that he would return to Singh Durbar with the people's mandate. Now, Oli is heading towards Singh Durbar with 77 seats from the CPN UML and 88 seats from the Nepali Congress in parliament.
