BAGLUNG, Feb 23: Nepali Congress Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel said on Saturday that it was not the UCPN (Maoist) but the president that mooted the idea of forming a new government under the leadership of sitting chief justice.

Speaking at a Reporters Club Nepal program in Tanahun, Paudel said, “The president had asked Prachanda (Pushpa Kamal Dahal) why he spoke about his (president’s) proposal in the public,” and added, “This is the president’s proposal.” [break]

Paudel also said new Constituent Assembly elections are the only solution to the present political crisis. He, however, ruled out the possibility of new elections under the incumbent government. He was of the opinion that priority should be given to political parties for government leadership, rather than any apolitical figure.
