It is customary for the Head of State to visit the Krishna Temple in Lalitpur on Krishna Janmashtami. President Paudel was welcomed at the temple premises by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan and other local representatives.
According to legend, the site was originally designated for the construction of a Mahadev (Shiva) temple. However, King Siddhi Narsingh is said to have dreamt of Lord Krishna instructing him to build a temple in His honour. Upon excavation, a Krishna Temple was discovered underground. Consequently, the Krishna Temple was established below, with the Shiva Temple constructed above it.
