KATHMANDU, August 31: Some local activists have started a campaign to collect garbage from Kathmandu and take it to the Sisdol dumping site after the government and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) failed to collect garbage in the Kathmandu Valley for the past 25 days.
According to international sanitation activist Raj Manav, the campaign started from Ratna Park in Kathmandu. Many civil society leaders took part in the campaign from various places of the Kathmandu Valley. Manav said that since the government has not worked properly to manage the garbage, as responsible citizens, they have taken the garbage to Sisdol and launched a campaign to restore the beauty of the Valley.
The organizers of Bagmati, Rudramati and Maharajgunj cleaning campaigns also participated in the clean-up campaign. The participants also displayed placards that said - “I will keep my country clean.”
The KMC and the government are under intense pressure to immediately repair the damaged road to Sisdol and make arrangements for proper disposal of the garbage that has piled up in the Valley for the past many days.
