KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has written a letter to the Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) asking the latter to weigh the gold seized from outside the Tribhuvan International Airport a few weeks ago.

Thaneshwar Acharya, the head of the Mint Division, confirmed that they have received a letter from the CIB, adding that the process of weighing the gold will start accordingly.

“We will begin by unpacking the goods and separating the gold and then we will start the process of melting the gold,” he said.

The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) recovered 100 kg of gold concealed in 'brake shoes' on July 19. When the gold was recovered, the weight was measured along with the weight of the brake shoes.

“If the gold is separated, the task of measuring its weight can be completed within a day. After that, it will take three more days to check the quality," Acharya added.

After investigating the gold case for 19 days, the DRI handed over further investigations to the CIB. The CIB is now investigating the case under the charge of organized crime and revenue evasion.
