KATHMANDU, Jan 28: On Sunday, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case at the Special Court in Kathmandu against individuals involved in both taking and inciting bribes.

A case has been registered against the computer engineer Pradeep Bhattarai, working in the identity card section of Department of Passports, Tripureshwor for allegedly demanding Rs 34,000 from a service recipient for facilitating the passport-making process.

Sumitra Sapkota, alias Sumi Dhami, is accused of inciting the bribery, colluding with Bhattarai, and depositing the bribe amount in Bhattarai's account.

The CIAA claims that Pradip Bhattarai, a computer engineer assigned to the Department of Passports, for the facilitation of national identity cards, accepted bribes from the service seekers under the pretense of making passports for them.

The CIAA has filed a case against both Sapkota and Bhattarai, seeking a fine of Rs 34,000 along with punishment, as they have been confirmed to be involved in the criminal act of taking and soliciting bribes.
